What is a Vitamin?
Vitamins are essential for life but are called micro-nutrients because they are needed in very small amounts in the diet. Unlike minerals which cannot be made in the body, we can manufacture certain ones, for example vitamin K.
Vitamins come in two groups – water soluble which are quickly and easily lost, therefore needed every day, and fat soluble which can be stored in the body and therefore should not be taken in large amounts on a long-term basis.
